Local Roots Food Tours offers three tours; each distinctly different. City of Trees Food Tasting and Cultural Walking Tour and our Origins of Sacramento Food and Cultural Walking Tour based in Sacramento, and venturing north of Sacramento; Gold Discovery Walking Food Tour of Nevada City takes place in the Sierra Nevada foothills, about 1 hour north of Sacramento. Soon to launch (April 6th, 2012) is our newest food tour; Murphys Food & Wine Tour in quaint historic town of Murphys in Calaveras County, about 1.5 hours south of Sacramento. Each tour offers a large variety of tastings while visiting an array of specialty food shops, artisans, and neighborhood restaurants. Enough food is served to consider it a meal.

Typically served in Southern kitchens during the holidays, a Buttermilk Pie is always at the top of my list. Yes, it sounds a little odd but just imagine the most rich and luscious custard and add a flaky, buttery crust… You’ve got yourself a Buttermilk Pie. Our owner, Lisa Armstrong, was invited to 96.9 Eagle by Public Affairs Director, Kat Maudru to talk about our walking food and culinary tours. The primary theme was Local Roots Food Tours mission of getting back to the roots of our surrounding communities’ agriculture and history. Our trained tour guides get each tour participant to slow down and SAVOR each fresh signature dish and LEARN more about the chef’s passion in each dish created at each of our stops as well as what mom and pop owners believe makes them unique in their eateries.
